It was personally very rewarding this year given the amazing people I got to meet, talk to, moderate for, and present with. Here were some of the highlights.
Friday -- Teacher-Librarian Day
Saturday -- How, Where, & Why Should I Start Reading Comics
Fortunately, other than the fact that I talk with my hands a lot more than George O'Connor (The Olympians), Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Sisters, Drama), Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, The Sculptor), or our awesome moderator, Robin Brenner (Understanding Manga and Anime), we all had things in common in our experiences with comics....
...although Scott had the ridiculously unfair advantage of being childhood friends with Kurt Busiek.
Sunday -- Scott McCloud Presents "The Sculptor"
Okay, no pressure. Scott is giving his final talk on The Sculptor as part of a three-month long promotional tour and I've been asked to serve as his moderator. As it turned out, however, it was NO pressure. Scott can take a question and not just talk about it for 10 minutes, but talk about it for 10 minutes in a way that makes you wish he would talk about it for 20! The audience loved his wit, charm, and self-deprecating humour. They were kind enough to laugh at my jokes as well, like when I told them that I couldn't recognize Scott when we first met, because I was expecting someone with dark hair, glasses and no eyes.
